Closeness made deliberately

Counseling for Long-Distance Relationships in Texas

Distance changes how a relationship works. Closeness has to be created on purpose, schedules rarely line up, and small misunderstandings can grow in the gaps. Counseling can help, with one important limit about where each of you needs to be.

Both partners must be in Texas

Both partners must be physically located in Texas at the time of every session, because Texas is the only state where John is authorized to practice. That means a couple separated between Texas and another state cannot be seen together by telehealth here, even if one partner lives in Texas.

Distance within Texas is fine. Many couples live in different cities, work different rotations, or split weeks between locations, all inside the state. If one of you is outside Texas, the consultation call is still a good place to ask questions, and John can help you think about finding a counselor licensed where both of you are.

Mismatched schedules

Long-distance couples often live on different timetables. One partner is winding down while the other is just starting. Calls get squeezed in, cut short, or missed, and each missed moment can carry more meaning than it should.

John helps couples talk about what those moments mean to each of you rather than arguing about the clock.

Closeness that has to be made

Without shared daily life, connection takes intention. Couples may rely on routines like nightly calls, but routines can start to feel like obligations. It helps to talk about what actually makes each of you feel close.

In counseling, you can build rituals that feel genuine and flexible enough for real life.

Visits can carry pressure too. When time together is limited, couples may feel that every weekend has to be perfect, which can make ordinary disagreements feel much bigger. Naming that pressure often helps it ease.

Worry in the gaps

Distance can make insecurity louder. A slow reply or a quiet night can feel like distance in the relationship itself. One partner may seek reassurance while the other feels monitored.

John helps couples understand that cycle and respond to each other with more trust. No counselor can guarantee an outcome.

What a session actually looks like

Sessions are 50 minutes by telehealth. Partners can join from different locations inside Texas, each on their own screen if needed. John may begin with a recent call that went badly, or a weekend visit that did not feel the way either of you hoped.

He slows it down and helps each of you say what you needed. You will usually leave with one small change to try before the next session.

Asking whether it fits

The free 30-minute consultation is the place to confirm locations and ask questions.

Sessions are $175 for 50 minutes, private pay.

Common Questions

Can we join from two different places?

Yes, as long as both of you are physically in Texas during the session. Each partner can join from their own location.

What if one of us moves out of state?

Sessions together would need to pause while one partner is outside Texas. John can talk with you about options, including finding a counselor licensed where you both are.

How long are sessions and what do they cost?

Sessions are 50 minutes and $175. The first 30-minute consultation is free. John works on a private-pay basis and does not bill insurance directly, though some couples have out-of-network benefits worth asking their plan about.

Take the Next Step
