For suicide or emotional crisis
Call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. It is intended for people experiencing suicidal thoughts, emotional distress, or concern about someone else.
You can also contact Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741741. These resources are separate from John's practice and are designed for needs that should not wait for a scheduled couples counseling appointment.
For veterans in crisis
Call 988 and then press 1 to reach the Veterans Crisis Line. This is the listed crisis option for veterans, service members, and people concerned about them.
John is a U.S. Navy veteran and works with military and veteran couples, but his practice does not provide crisis response or emergency care. The Veterans Crisis Line, rather than a consultation request to this practice, is the appropriate listed resource when the need is urgent.
For domestic violence concerns
Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233. The hotline can help someone think through options confidentially without requiring them to make an immediate decision.
Couples counseling is generally not appropriate while there is ongoing violence or fear of a partner. Safety and specialized support need to come first. The hotline can help someone consider options confidentially without requiring couples participation.
For immediate danger
Call 911 when there is immediate danger. Do not wait for a reply from this practice, submit a consultation form, or rely on a scheduled counseling appointment.
An emergency requires a service designed to respond now. John cannot monitor messages continuously or provide emergency intervention.
What ordinary couples sessions cover
A standard session is 50 minutes by telehealth while both partners are physically in Texas. It focuses on the relationship pattern, communication, trust, distance, and transitions when ordinary couples work is appropriate.
It is not crisis stabilization, individual therapy, diagnosis-led treatment, assessment, or medication care. John works with couples only.
Returning to non-urgent care
After immediate safety and crisis needs are addressed, a couple may use the free 30-minute consultation to ask whether relationship-focused counseling is appropriate. That conversation does not replace crisis or specialized support.
Ongoing sessions are $175 for 50 minutes and private pay. No counselor can guarantee that couples work will be suitable in every circumstance.
