When the same fight keeps returning

Couples Counseling for Constant Arguing

If it feels like you argue about everything, or the same argument keeps coming back no matter the topic, you are not alone. Counseling helps you see the loop you are caught in and slow it down before it takes over.

The same fight in different clothes

Couples in frequent conflict often say the topics are endless: dishes, money, weekends, tone of voice. Yet the arguments tend to follow the same shape. Something small is raised, one partner feels criticized, the other feels brushed off, and within minutes it is about everything.

John helps couples look past the topic to the sequence. When you can both see the loop, the fight stops being about who is right and starts being something you can recognize together.

How fast it escalates

For many couples, the hardest part is the speed. There may be only a few seconds between a neutral comment and raised voices. That speed is a sign that both partners are already on alert, expecting the familiar hurt before it arrives.

In counseling, John pays attention to those first seconds. What was the look, the word, or the pause that tipped it? Slowing that moment down, often more than once, is how couples begin to catch it at home.

What the arguing is protecting

Frequent arguing can look like two people who do not care. Usually it is the opposite. Arguing is often a way of refusing to let something important go unheard. One partner may be fighting to matter. The other may be fighting to not be seen as failing.

When those needs come to the surface, the arguments often lose some of their heat. You may still disagree, but you are no longer fighting for your place in the relationship every time.

Repair after a hard fight

Many couples in constant conflict never quite finish an argument. It simply stops, and the leftover hurt joins the next one. Learning to repair, to come back and say what happened and what you wish had happened, is one of the most practical things couples work on.

No counselor can guarantee an outcome. What couples often notice over time is fewer blowups, faster recovery, and more confidence that disagreement will not break the relationship.

What a session actually looks like

You meet together for 50 minutes by telehealth, with both partners located in Texas. John typically asks about a recent argument and slows it down frame by frame: what started it, when it turned, what each of you felt and did next.

If the argument starts again in the session, that is useful rather than a setback. John will interrupt the escalation, help each partner say what is happening underneath, and give the other a chance to respond to that instead. He is active and direct, and he will not let one person take over the hour.

Before you leave, you will usually agree on one thing to try, such as a signal for pausing when the pace picks up and a plan for coming back to the conversation.

Starting when you are tired of fighting

The free 30-minute consultation lets both of you meet John and ask what the work would involve. You do not need to be calm or in agreement to begin.

Sessions are $175 for 50 minutes, private pay, by telehealth across Texas.

Common Questions

Does arguing a lot mean our relationship is in trouble?

Not necessarily. Many couples who argue often still care deeply about each other. The question is less how often you disagree and more whether you can recover and understand each other afterward.

Will John tell us who is right?

No. John does not take sides on the content of arguments. He helps both of you understand the pattern you share, because that is usually what needs to change.

How long are sessions and what do they cost?

Sessions are 50 minutes and $175. The first 30-minute consultation is free. John works on a private-pay basis and does not bill insurance directly, though some couples have out-of-network benefits worth asking their plan about.
